Our history
Sixty-five years, one family
The Hills family business was established in 1960 by Paul and Netta Hill with the purchase of the Maitland Esso Distributorship. Built on strong family values, hard work and integrity, Hills Tankers has become a leading regional carrier and logistics service provider.
Andrew and Vicki Hill, 2023: taking delivery of Volvo Group Australia's 75,000th Australian-built truck. Hills has bought Volvo since the Maitland days.

The Hill family buys into the Maitland Esso Fuel Distributorship.
- 1985
Diversify into non-fuel liquids cartage.
- 1991
Mobil acquires Esso; two additional Hunter Valley distributorships are integrated into the business.
- 1995
The fuel sales business is sold to Mobil, and bulk tanker cartage keeps growing.
- 2007
Hills Tankers Brisbane is established, with a focus on aviation products.
- 2011
Queensland operations expand to Mackay.
- 2012
Operations commence in Victoria.
- 2015
The business relocates from Rutherford to a new 40,000 square metre purpose-built facility in Beresfield.
- 2016
A sub-depot is established in Sydney.
- 2021
Hills Tankers Townsville is established. We now service the entire east coast out to the NT border and Gulf Country.
- 2025
Hills Tankers Adelaide is established.

Our team
The people behind the fleet
Our maintenance team is led by a Fleet Maintenance Manager with four coordinators and three full-time mechanics, keeping the fleet to our own standard, in-house.
Our safety team runs deep: a HSSE Manager, a compliance team, a training team, and a Driver Trainer Lead with four full-time driver trainers.
Operations are led by our General Manager, overseeing a National Operations Manager, Commercial Manager, five depot managers, twelve schedulers and our national driver team.
With a highly trained workforce, an extensive distribution network, advanced fleet and assets, and a leadership team with deep industry knowledge, Hills Tankers is in good stead for another sixty years.
